How I Work
My approach starts with context. Before I recommend, change or build anything, I need to understand the business it needs to work within.
That means understanding where you are today, what's already in place, what's working, what isn't, and how you got there. I also want to understand where the business is going, because the right solution needs to work now while giving you something you can build on.
Every business is different. The aim is to build an approach that works for your business and the people in it.
Understand before building
No business is a blank canvas. Before I start, I look at what already exists and the context around it. What processes and systems are in place? What's working well? Where is there friction or uncertainty? And what's missing altogether?
A company starting from scratch needs a very different approach from one evolving something that's already established.
I don't build in the dark. I understand where you are first, then we decide where to go.
Build for people and business
I care about how people experience work, but that experience has to exist within the reality of running a business. I don't see those as competing priorities.
A process can sound great in theory, but if managers can't realistically deliver it, employees don't understand it, or it creates unnecessary complexity for the business, it isn't going to work.
I look at what employees need, what managers need to make it work, what the business can realistically support, and what it's trying to achieve. The best solution is one that works for the people using it and the business behind it.
Build what you need, not what you're supposed to have
There is no universal blueprint for how a company should manage its people. What works for one organisation can create unnecessary complexity in another.
I don't introduce processes simply because they're considered best practice or because a business of a certain size is expected to have them. I look at what will genuinely add value in the context of your organisation.
Sometimes that means introducing more structure. Sometimes it means simplifying what's already there. And sometimes the right answer is not to build something at all.
The goal isn't to create more process. It's to create the right amount of structure for your business and the people in it.
Build foundations that can evolve
What works for a business today won't necessarily be what it needs tomorrow. Teams grow, priorities shift, technology changes and new challenges emerge.
I build systems with that in mind. They provide enough structure to work well now without becoming so rigid that they can't evolve with the business. I design modularly, so individual elements can be used, updated, added to or adapted without having to rebuild the entire system around them.
The aim is to leave you with something your business can own and continue to develop long after my work is finished.
Strong foundations should give you somewhere to build from, not something you'll eventually have to start over.
What working together looks like
I start by understanding your business, your people and what's already in place. From there, I design and customise the right approach for your organisation, with implementation considered from the beginning - not as an afterthought. The end result is something that works in practice, belongs to your business and can continue to evolve with it.
